PUP Senator Wang invites HEMP to the table

Dear Senator-elect Dio Wang, thank you for your letter inviting the Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) Party to the Palmer United Party (PUP) Quarterly meetings.

We appreciate being given the opportunity to formally present the issues that we stand for to a federal parliamentary party. No other party has ever extended any such invitation to me personally since we were established in 1999.

The HEMP Party is a moderate, middle of the road, and pragmatic political party.

We would initially want to remove all of the red tape which has been preventing the establishment of a viable industrial industrial hemp industry in Australia. At present all hemp fibre products are imported.

In the same vein we would also have the current laws, banning the use of hemp seed as a food for human consumption, repealed. Hemp seed has long been a legal and nutritious component of bird food.

Once these obvious reforms have been achieved, we would then like to see legislation which would allow easy and affordable access to a properly formulated, locally made, Cannabis tincture to those many ordinary Australians who are in dire need of this type of medicine.

Currently the only product, which partially meets these needs, is made in the United Kingdom, and is controlled by ‘big pharma’. Thus it is very expensive and difficult to obtain.

These are the reforms that we hope PUP might be able represent on our behalf in the Parliament of Australia.

Of course we would like to see the police persecution imposed on those other ordinary Australians who partake of Cannabis for simple pleasure, ended. Those reforms we can put off until another day when Australia, belatedly, catches up with the United States.

We look forward to meeting with you in Canberra.

  • Kind Regards,
  • Graham Askey
  • Secretary
  • Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) Party

Dear Mr. Graham Askey, I thank you for supporting the Palmer United Party over the major parties in the re-run of the Senate election.

Strong primary votes and your preference will give the Palmer United Party the balance of power in the Senate from July. We will be able to hold the Government to account and we will exercise that power constructively and carefully. Therefore we seek to listen to different views in order to better represent Australians.

As stated in my letter dated 6 March 2014, we look forward to establishing a close working relationship with your party. Quarterly meetings will be held in Canberra as part of the efforts to establish and maintain such a working relationship. We will, together, work out a time for the meetings in due course.

You are also always welcome to contact me via email (dio.wang@palmerunited.com) or office number 08 9324 2831.

  • Kind Regards,
  • Dio Wang

6 March 2014

Dear Mr. Graham Askey, My name is Dio Wang. I am the leader of the Palmer United Party standing for the senate in the upcoming senate election.

Palmer United Party believes in freedom of speech, multiparty democracy and for all Australians having the right to choose who shall govern them. Palmer United Party, with the Australian Motoring Enthusiasts Party, will hold the balance of power in the senate. Our party will not support the removal of group voting or threshold preferencing or any other measure which seeks to limit the participation in the election by anyone.

We are seeking to establish a close working relationship with Australians and all political parties which may have different points of view. We plan to conduct quarterly meetings with parties with which we can establish this working relationship. Meetings will be held at Parliament House in Canberra. In the coming election, we seek that your party preference the Palmer United Party before the Liberal, Labor, National and Greens Parties. If that is achievable, we want to include your party in the quarterly meetings over the term of the next parliament.

Could you please let me know if you are agreeable to this.
